Signal isolator glass8/23/2023 ![]() This circuit is known as compensated attenuator and it is also called four arm bridge. So in order to neutralize we use the capacitor. At the output there should be decrease in the amplitude but it will not distort the signal but as it has stray capacitance because it is frequency dependent there will be distortion or change in the signal at the output. But according to the definition of the attenuator we know that the amplitude of the input signal is reduced by the finite amount at the output. As the capacitor is frequency dependent it will change the waveform at the output. The capacitor is frequency dependent where R1 and R2 are independent on the frequency. So in order to neutralize this effect we use the capacitor. If we connect this circuit without capacitor there will be loading effect. So in order to minimize the loading we use the capacitor. Suppose if we connect the output of this circuit to another circuit as input there will be loading effect. It is mainly used to reduce the loading effect. ![]() This equation is generally but practical there exist capacitance across R 2 ![]() This equation can be also represented as: So that it will reduce the amount of the signal at the output. Where R 2/( (R 1 + R 2)) is called attenuation factor and from the above equation we can understand that the output voltage is the product of the input voltage and attenuation factor. Attenuator is a simple resistive network which reduces the amplitude of the input signal by finite amount at the output and the circuit is called as attenuator circuit.
